Elk Petroleum is the primary oil and gas operator in the Greater Aneth Oil Field, one of the largest enhanced oil recovery (EOR) projects in the Rocky Mountain region.
The Greater Aneth Field was discovered in 1956 and is the largest oil field in the Paradox Basin, located in SW Colorado and SE Utah. Elk’s interest in the Aneth field is comprised of three contiguous operating units, covering 45,000+ acres located on Navajo Nation land: The Aneth Unit, the McElmo Unit and the Ratherford Unit.
Elk’s strategy is focused on applying established EOR technologies in an environmentally sensitive manner to mature oil fields such as the Greater Aneth Field. To date, the Field has produced over 500 million barrels of oil of the estimated 1.5 billion bbls of the original oil in place (“OOIP”) (Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining, 2017). In addition, 35% of the Greater Aneth Field reserves remain undeveloped. Elk operates its units collaboratively with Navajo Nation Oil & Gas Company, contributing significant economic benefit to the Navajo Nation. Elk values its relationship with the Navajo Nation and proudly support community, land owner and employment interest across the Greater Aneth Field and surrounding communities.
